Health Sector Support Section (SASS)
The Health Sector Support Section (SASS) provides technical support to the Ministry of Public Health in carrying out the sectoral health response. It works in close collaboration with the Directorate for Disease, Epidemic and Pandemic Control for the design, execution and monitoring of the AIDS response as well as epidemiological surveillance and research on HIV/AIDS and STIs. Its mission is to:
- Monitor the care activities of people living with HIV in health facilities, specialized and decentralized structures;
- Ensure the availability of drugs for opportunistic infections and medical devices, as well as the continuous training of staff responsible for medical care;
- Monitor, in relation with the relevant administrations, problems relating to the availability and accessibility of antiretrovirals as well as quality assurance;
- Ensure the organization, coordination and monitoring of activities for the prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission.
